I have Xenia in my 130g and it does okay.  Pulsing isn't what it once was and it doesn't spread.  I read all the time that some people get xenia to go like weeds.  Would those people please enlighten me on what I might do to also be one of those people that complain about my xenia being out of control?

Thanks!
Camille

If your tank parameters are really good Xenia will not thrive.  JMO

It must be the season for Xenia trouble.
Funny, I noticed one recent thread where the comment was that Xenia thrives in a tank running AC and PO4 remover; Confused yet another said the tank must be "dirty" and that AC and PO4 remover should be discontinued.Clown
Xenia is a mystery, no doubt about it.
Sometimes, as was mentioned in one of the above threads, it returns in new spots on our reef.
Thankfully, it's so prolific that we can get more somewhere from someone for free!

Every piece of mine died, and it was growing like a weed. It was even growing up the back wall! But... I know have three new starts. I am with Mark I think it had nothing to do with water quality or parameters, unless it died from adding new VHO super actinics.

I moved my xenia 6in higher on a rock and the ends started to look burned so I had to move them back down. I really think they are picky as hell.

I just got rid of a mountainous colony of Silver Tip - a 12" X 6" rock completely covered...

The new owner counted all the "stalks" on the rock (62!) as to how many heads (polyps) somewhere over 1000  Shocked

Plus, 7 additional "stalks" with another 300+ heads remain in the tank. I didn;t realize i had so friggin' much!

All this from a single "stalk" of maybe 15 heads 18 months ago... plus, I've "thinned it out" twice before!

I wonder if the "pickiness" is due to somekind of intra-species variation, where some colonies thrive yet others wither even though to the human eye they look like are all the same type of coral..?

Anyway, if any of you who have no luck with it want a stalk of mine to try out (to see if there is any a difference) just let me know Big%20smile

As mentioned above I would check your alkalinity.  It seems that once the alkalinity drops the polyps stop pulsing as much and over time my die off.
