I realize if you move a glass tank around, it'll compromise the seal, and that in general it's not a good idea.

What about setting them on their front?

What about leaving them empty (no water) for awhile?  Will that compromise the life of the seal or anything?

if you are moving a tank and resetting it up this is the perfect time to fix the seal. Generally they should be redone every 5-7 years, and on large tanks after every move.

lol, large tanks after every move, We bought our 180 three years ago moved it to one house, moved it to another last spring, just sold it two weeks ago, so moved it to the guys house, then his landlord flaked out and they lost there rental, so he moved it again today, its around 9 years old.....
They do say that you easily compromise the tank if its large and that you should indeed replace the silicone every 7 years, so far I've never had any problems but its out of my hands now......
I would say that it would be a very involved full day project to re-silicone a tank, If you do, make sure to completely remove all the old silicone on the inside. I'd do it in black, I really like the look of black silicone tanks!

This tank has no issues and it's less than a year old.  It's just sitting in my garage and someone said something about the silicone not working if it stays dry or is moved too much, so I'm asking.

I would water test it when you get ready to use it but I bet there is no problem.

yeah shouldn't have a problem at all, If it sat out in full sun then I might worry about UV deterioration, which shouldn't happen, but I doubt thats a problem,
Definitely do the hose test
