DIY Protein Skimmer?

I've built a couple, how big is your system, buy tubing, have a couple flanges made from an acrylic shop, I used, www.globalplastics.com for a dome for the cone glue on the diameter neck of your choice, make a couple more flanges to remove the neck, finish up your collection cup with the same diameter tube as your body and your done.  For pumps if you want it recirculating, buy a couple uniseals (www.savko.com)  drill holes and mount the pump of your choice, genx, sedra, etc etc. 

that was one of the first threads I ever read on the subject, its really grown, essentially any skimmer is just a cylinder you're injection bubbles into, so you can make it out of anything, there is a monster thread on just using a five gallon water bottle, but you have to redo the neck its much too small for consistent skimming.

if your just trying to save money then i think i can help. i bought one of those little gravity skimmers for my tank before i could afford the G2 i think its rated up to 55G not sure though i gotta go into aquatica today or tomorrow. when im there ill check on the rating but its yours if you want it. all you need are air pumps to drive it thats all pm me. like i said i have no use for it anymore

buy some 8-10" tube then, about 30 reaction chamber, order a dome for the transition cone or have one built.  Use a 4" neck and use either a sedra 9000/genx, or any of your choice, I'd mount them recirculating and feed from your overflows, it would be capable of around 400 or so gallons
