I have two 175w ballasts.  One failed and I replaced it with a standard ballast with identical specs (same with the capicitor).  The new ballast will not run any light I have  I've tried an Uhsio 10k and a Coral Life 6,500.  The light starts to go, but in about 10 seconds it goes out.  The bulb stays good and will run on the good ballast.  The lighting outlet that sold me the new ballast knows nothing.  I checked the out-put on the one good ballast that is still running.  It is putting out the same volts as the new one.   Does anyone have any ideas?

I have lots of ideas... just not enough info to answer your questions.

The 175w Ushio is a pulse start bulb which requires an M-137 ballast.  I'm guessing the replacement ballast you bought is a probe start (M-57).  Can you look at the sticker on the new ballast and see if says M-57 or M-137?
