Just and Idea that needs feedback.  I currently supplement my 2 250w ab 10k bulbs with 2 110w actinic bulbs.  What if instead I supplemented with one used 1 250w 20k XM. Do you think I'd still get the blue effect. I'd only be using 30 more watts and I'd have an another MH booming down the tank.

Thoughts?

I think it would make the light more intense, and you'd still have some blue, but not as much imo than you would have with Actinics. Personally though, I think it would look more natural and pleasing to the eye.

It definately wouldnt be as blue as the actinics... plus how wide is your tank? I dont think that a single MH would be able to cover the width of an average size tank... but I do agree with Adam. I would just add the XM and keep the actinics too!!!

I would personally have the two outside MH's XM and the center MH the 10K. I am not too sure if you'll get enough spectrum coverage with the addition in the middle. I may be wrong. But I doubt it.

  I love that!

I've got a 125 (6 ft long) with three MHs and vho.  A 250w 10K on each end and a 400w 20K in the center.  And two 6' vho actinics.  I like the looks of my tank better with the actinics on then off.  If you want to try without vhos then, as much as it pains me to say it, Carl just might be right.

I'm not willing to say that.  Maybe with time...
I do like what Shane was saying, that is what I was thinking.  Add the halide, but keep them VHOs.  Here is another advantage to the VHO set up, you can run them longer so you have a morning and evening effect, without your halides on.

Coreyk,

I've heard it is too blue, but haven't tried it yet.  I'm planning on it.  But Ryan and Carl tell me I won't want them and will end up taking them out.
How big of a tank?

adam -- i've been thinking about putting them over my 55. i currently have 4 VHOs. i have put a 20k over my 10g frag tank and really like the color, just not sure how well it would mix with the VHOs :)

I personally think it would be too blue with 20k's and actinics

Just found this link:

http://www.coralreefecosystems.com/images/19lg_20k_act.jpg

It is a 20k coralife MH with actinics

BLUE!!!
