Here lately my acro subulata and valida are not looking to great.  They are both right in front of a powerhead and a couple of branches are starting to turn a green/brown.  They are both originally purple.  I tested my water and here is what I got:

Calcium only 340 (working on that)
Alk   only 8  (not to bad, but I'm also working on that)
Nitrates 0
Nitrites 0
Ammonia 0
PH  Only 7.4  (working on that too)

So, I know that these out of whack levels are probably what is causing the problem, but my question is, do I cut off the dieing pieces, or just fix the levels and hope that it recovers?

Thanks guys!

Perhaps I would be better at basket weaving. . . at least it would be cheaper!

One more thing, my tank has been looking better than it ever has!  My frogspawn and hammer is steadily growing, I'm finally growing coraline algae, my purple milli is starting to grow, my monti digitata is finally growing, palys are growing like crazy, pretty much everything is doing GREAT, until now this little issue has come up.

Kindra,

As long as they are not turning white I would leave them. 7.4 PH is so low that I question the accuracy of the results. Alk at 8 is low but just barely okay. Bring it up slowly to at least 9. CA at 340 is pretty low. Generally you don't want it below 380. I keep min at 420 so that if it starts to get lower I can fix it before it gets too low.

since I started dosing kalk I have had great calcium, alk, and ph levels have been in the 8.1 - 8.4 range, and everything is doing/growing great, I had great reservations about starting to using it, and some close calls,(when refilling the bucket and too much gets in to fast) this stuff is really simple to use. Best of all it is cheep to use.
It would really help with your ph levels, and balance your other levels.

yeah kalk can be very dangerous. I think if you are running it on an ro top off it would be better, but than you run the risk say you get aleak somewhere and it dumps all the kalk in your tank. we are planning on running it when we get a new kalk reactor, but we are not going to hook it up til we get an aquacontroller

I am running it with a Kent float valve, to make up for evaporation with weekly water changes.

I have it mixed up in a 5 gallon bucket, then gravity fed into the float valve, I have to fill it every two to three days in the winter, and every day and a ½ in the summer

Another test you want to check that always seems to get overlooked but is very important is your magnesium.  It should be at least 1350.

Ya, I question my PH myself, its just one of those tests that you try to match the colors on.  Surely its wrong cause wouldn't I be having ALOT more problems if it was really that low?  I guess I will leave the coral alone and hope for the best.
