Ok for those ppl using the workhorse 7 with 2 110w vho's. How did you wire the bulbs? one red wire to each lead on each bulb?

No, three reds to one bulb, yellow to other bulb, then wire the other end of the bulbs togther.
Do a search, I must have answered this question 10 times here, I think there's even drawings.

I did mine a little differently. Yellow to the same end of the two bulbs (Jumped together,) and then a pair of reds for each bulb. It worked fine for me.

Yeah i did a search and found it seem that ppl wire these two ways. so i was checking to see what everyone else was doing. so far i see you can do 3 wires to one bulb connect the ends and the yellow off the second bulb and one red wire for each pin then connect the other end to the yellow.
is one way better then the other?

I think with only two red wires going to each bulb you will be underpowering the bulbs. With three wires to one bulb and the bulbs wired in series you trick the ballast into thinking it's powering one 8 ft vho bulb at full amp draw.
edit: FWIW, I did a little rewire work on John Fletchers ballast that was wired by Brad at The Aquarium. John's got an Icecap 440 powering 4 2' bulbs wired with two bulbs in series, like I suggest with with the WH7. John's not had any problems either, so I guess the advice could be extended to Icecaps too.

We just got done experimenting with this - wiring one set in parallel, and one set in series. They both work, but when looking at them side by side, you do get more light from the set wired in series, just like Jon suggested.

Jon, that makes sense now that you put it that way. I don't have mine connected like that anymore because I decided to run them both off of seperate ballasts to make sure I was getting "optimum" light output. The 10K Ushio's are not as Blue as I would like, so I need as much actinic as I can get.
Thanks for clarifying that for us Jon.

You can never have too much actinic light, imo. Even with 20K's I still like VHO actinics ![](smileys/smiley3.gif) .
