I have an algae I think is scinaia. It is getting too bushy for my nano tank. My son wants some. What is the best way to divide it - break it off from the bottom? Cut some off? And will it attach by itself or will we have to try to glue it or something?
Enjoy it while it lasts. The red alga are hard to grow in our aquariums. It would probably be best to give him a good multi-branched cutting that could be hooked into a crevice between rocks. Don't expect it to live in another tank, but if it does, enjoy. It's a rarity. Do you live in Utah? I'll bet you could sell frags of it. Can you post a pic?

I have that genus! In my tank, it is very hardy but a painfully slow grower. I take cuttings using a fingernail to slice it, then stick it between two rocks. You could try tying it down to a small rock or shell using thread.
