I just made a diy kalk rxt and when I put on my maxi jet 400 the seal between the propeller and the piece of plastic that changes the direction of the flow leaks.  Any ideas on how to fix this or if I should get another pump?

I ended up just glueing it together.

I was able to buy all the parts from home depot for 20 bucks and had the pump.  Looks pretty slick.  I'll post pics tomorrow.

ya know whats sad . is I cant remember what my own little discussion was about! ..I was going to post a link to it but for the life of me I cant remember ...

and the only reason why I talked to my self in the thread was I hate the fact when someone posts questions to problems but never posts what they did to fix it ... LOL

I read this as soon as it was posted, but was unclear as to where it was leaking.  I was too tired to respond.  I am guessing that it was leaking where the impellar housing connects to the main body.  These are not usually water tight, but most people who use them externally just silicone them shut.

Can't wait to see the pics...

A couple other questions I have is that the ABS glue still stinks after it has been glued a day. Should I be conerned or should I wait for it to air out for like a week? I've rinsed numerous times.

Also how do people keep it from siphoning back into their top off water.

I would not worry about the smell.  The solvent has already dissapated and you should be fine connecting it up and away you go. p.s.  I don't know what I am talking about..... I just make it up as I go!!!!!!

To stop the siphoning it should be fed by your top off system, or a slow moving dosing pump of some kind.  That way the only way water goes out is if some more fresh water goes in.  You could pressurize the vessel straight from the ro inlet, and then run that to a float valve.

Make sure that the pump does not run constantly, it only needs a min or two every couple hours or so.

Make sure it is easy to disassemble because it will need a lot of cleaning, you may even want to get another pump so that you can just swap them out, instead of having to wait until one is all the way clean.  A good long soak in vinegar will help get a lot of the gunk off.

I'm excited to see how this turns out...  Keep us posted.

I've had it up and going for a few weeks and so far so good.  I've noticed my tank has really improved with the addition.  What amazed me the most was that it bumped my orp up so that its now over 400, in which it used to be in the mid 300s.  Not bad for 20 bucks.

I fixed the siphoning with a checkvalve from petsmart.  Luckily I bought two knowing that half the time I buy small parts one of them is broken.  And amazingly enough one was hehe.  The extra buck and half or so saved me a trip.
