Topic: Aiptasia question Posted: August 15 2007 at 10:49pm |
I destroyed this huge aiptasia today. i pretty much beat the crap out of it and pulled it out of the aquarium.
I was wondering if all the crap that came out of it is going to hurt my livestock? There were all these little ball things attatched with goey slime. I have carbon running right now, should i put some new carbon in, or is everything fine?

It wont hurt anything, but you most likely will have many more now. Tearing it apart like that sends out hundreds of spores, which in turn makes hundreds of little aptasia babies.

I think we all speak from experience on this one. I have noticed that even with Joe's juice, they seem to multiply!

Tileman's right. . . if you notice more my suggestion is to get a peppermint shrimp @ the Fish 4 U. Sometimes they are hit & miss for ppl but they worked for me. Good luck!

Raccons are known to eat aiptasia as well as corals. If this is a Fish only then the butterfly is an option.

Check out this video from the Idaho Marine Aquarium Society Forum. Scott I know you would have posted this once you saw this question. Sorry to steal your thunder.

Ya know, I spent about a year cultivating my Majano! I had a great crop of them...they were EVERYWHERE!
I saw a beatiful fish at the Aquarium...a Klien's...Now my majano is all but gone.
And...so far my zoo and other polyps are doing great. We'll see now thast his favorite food is gone.

Really? And what is a Klien's? I keep my population under control, but it does add to my maintenance work.

I just noticed a small aiptasia growing on one of my rocks Would it be best to inject it with kalk paste/ boiling water/ or seal it in it's rock with super glue or epoxy? Thanks for the help, hopefully I can kill this thing before it spreads. Josh

I would seal it in a tomb with glue.

Thanks Mike,
I kind of thought that would be the best way to stop them from spreading.
