Anyone experience noise from your SCWD?

Just got my scwd hooked up last night - it is making an intermittent whirring noise - and sometimes even clicking...  Just wondering if anyone else had heard this from your SCWD. BTW - running it on a Rio 12HF pump... should be around 750 gph.

I don't have one, but when I was looking into buying one, I noticed many people complaining about this on Reef Central.

I haven't had that problem. I'd check reefcentral as Adam suggested.

I'm running a SCWD with a Rio 17HF and it makes a very, very quiet gear sounding noise.  My skimmer and pumps are louder than the SCWD is by far and they are not very loud at all.

Hmm... if it were just the whirring of the gears, that would be ok. But it whirrs for a little while... then click click click click whirrr... silent... click click click whirrr... Etc. It is the clicking that is loud. The clicking almost sounds like when your car is low on oil or you put bad gas in it - kinda like a knocking? Anywho I got the number for 3iq and I'll call them tomorrow. See what they say.

Marcus - how fast is the switching with your 17hf?

Every 10-12 seconds or so.

I wonder if something, like a shell, is stuck in your SCWD.  Have you removed it to examine it?  Maybe a good cleaning is in order.

It started the clicking from the very first second it was turned on. My tank hasnt even had time to stick a shell up there. However... before I call 3iq I think I will try the vinegar trick that everyone has mentioned on RC and see if it solves it.
