That is very similar in size to my tank.  I'm still thinking the crane was a bad idea.  I'm all for having it built on site.
And he put this tank outside.... then used artificial lighting????  Is he crazy?

No, not until May of next year.  We have to wait until spring to pour the cement footings, and to attach the greenhouse.

Adam,

I was imagining your tank to be much larger than that. Bigger, but shallower maybe.

Yes, mine is only 4 feet tall.  But still that is 4,000 gal.  That is a good size tank.

Wow Adam, 4000 gallons?  Will that be the biggest residential tank in Utah?  BTW, are you getting that from Tenecor?

From regional.  My tank will only be 2,000.... when I said 4,000 above I meant that tank discussed here is a 4,000.  Sorry for any confusion.
Biggest residential tank?  Maybe?  I don't really know.

Nice job.  I always wondered what the biggest tank would be that I could have while trying to maintain the hobby aspect of it all.  Meaning, I would like to be able to get into my tank easily, cut frags, etc.  Do you forsee any problems with a tank that big?  Do you see it becoming more of a headache than a hobby?  I guess when youre talking about a reef tank though, hobby and headache kind of go hand in hand.  You also dive a lot so I guess a tank this size was inevitable.  Sorry for the interview but I really want to know your P.O.V on this cause I wanna get a huge tank in my new house but I want to make sure I don't go overboard.

Huge problems, lots of logistics, lots of work (which for me is the hobby), and lots of money.
But hey, why not go for it?

Would you be conducting research with it as well?

Nope, not really.  More of a tank that I can sit in and take pictures of my fish and corals.  That is really all I want.  It will most likely be an Atlantic biotope.

I just love Atlantic fishes.  The make up of the reefs are so beautiful.  Plus, I'm planning to collect all the fish and corals myself.  I have more collecting friends to our East than our West.

Diving.  The whole purpose of this tank is that I want a tank I can dive in.  That is what started the whole thing.
I want to sit there on the bottom of my tank with my scuba gear and just watch my fish swim around.
