Ive been really down since I got my new tank. I dont really even like to play fish tank anymore because it is so much work to clean it. Ive had glass in the past and now with this acrylic...... I have taken off the canopy to help with cleaning and have now lost an eel and anthias to jumping....
Im seriously thinking about giving up. It become more work then fun.....

What I have learned from this (and many others) acrylic blows as a display tank material.

A 210 would make a terrific sump/refugium for a 500 gl glass tank ... really, though... I hope you begin to feel better about it. Hate to see ya fall out.

Why not neglect cleaning your tank acrylic for a
while? It shouldn't hurt anything by letting some algae accumulate?
From one of my favorite shows "Take a vacation from
your problems". Revisit it in 2 weeks. It worked for me when I felt
that way about my 150. Go play with that new puppy instead.

you just need the correct tools to clean acrylic. People that dont like acrylic usually dont take the time to learn how to clean acrylic properly. You cant clean it like its glass. It really isnt too much work and with proper care you will not get any scratches and the clarity will beat glass and show off your reef better. And its not that much more work than glass, it just requires more patience when cleaning. The acrylic magnets are BAD!! so are some of the rigid plastic scrapers. Here is what i used and never had problems cleaning...

Take a few minutes every other day while you examine your tank. It takes almost no time at all and it will not scratch the acrylic.
I would definately get another acrylic tank, although i really like my glass 180 gallon too

Connie,
I feel your pain. Tank problems + maintenence + no time = a lot of frustration. My life seems to be telling me that I can't handle a hobby right now. I'm not a drinker, but my tank is giving me cause to reconsider. I'm thinking alcohol might be better therapy for me than hugs. Besides, the last evening I asked WMAS for hugs, I had 3 dudes try to get to second base. Some people here are a little too lonely and way too "compassionate". For the sake of the hobby, I hope you find a way through the difficulties you're facing and make a come back. For all the effort and work that you put into your tank, you're definitely entitled to some enjoyment. I really hope it's just around the corner. If you find the secret to happy tank-hood, make sure you share your success story with those of us who are currently sharing in your frustration. Here's to a quick recovery!

Some of us, myself included, get the idea into our heads that bigger is better. We see awesome tanks that inspire us to take it to the next level and find later that we were happy with what we had before and that what we've got now is just too much.
Here's my advice. Don't feel like you have to keep up the ______'s (insert the name of the person with that awesome tank you drool over.) For me it has come down to doing what I can and letting the rest do it's own thing. If that means I can't see through the glass this week then so be it.
Trust me I feel your pain, but as Bruce said, you're tank is just to great to abandon now. Take a break from it and come back in a couple weeks with a different view of things. If you need a pick me up come see my newly reset-up 130 gallon tank and your view of your tank will be boosted 100%.

Connie I just got my first acrylic tank also. I looked around and asked lots
of people what to use to clean it and most said the white pads. They all said
be sure not to get sand in them and as hard as I tried I some how got some
in :( Luckily I saw it and only got one Small one. So of I went to look for a
better way and one that wont have me in the tank too much. I have a kent
long handle scraper and got the acrylic blade but found out people don't like
them all that much and say the scratch as well. Then I found this "A neat
trick is to cut a credit card in half, then one edge down to fit in a Kent
scraper handle. This is great for removing coralline, and it's much better at
avoiding scratches than the Kent "acrylic-safe" plastic blade" So I got it a
shot and have to say it works great and can have the glass clean in a matter
of minutes Coraline and soft algae. Give it a try I think you will be happier.
