Topic: Eric's Lasers-Review Posted: February 16 2013 at 1:50pm |
I purchased a 3W laser from Eric over at Aquarium Creations last night for controlling aiptasia and palythoas.
So far I've found it to be very powerful and effective in doing the job.
What I like about it... -Sturdy, high quality construction -High power output (faster killing of pests) -UltraFire Lithium Ion Batteries (good high quality power source) -Large heatsink (allows longer operating time) -Great value with a great price -Highly adjustable focusing lens
What I didn't like about it... -Only fires for 1 minute continuously without risking frying the diode and requires a 2 minute cool down time (still very impressive for a continuous wave laser)
Overall I definitely recommend this laser to anyone who wants to fry pest polyps and anemones. As long as all instructions and safety precautions are followed (ALWAYS where the included eye protection when using, don't point at people or pets, do not point at airplanes, etc.), this laser will very likely be found as a very useful tool. As always, follow instructions and use safely as this can be a very dangerous tool.

Thanks Anna, I am glad you like it Don't for get a high quality adjustable lens. The cooling down is all part of having a hand held high powered laser which creates a lot of Heat thus having a large heat sink. There isn't really a option for cooling on a hand held unit yet. But it is defiantly fun...

Mine is working good as well! Great option for killing aptasia. It does take a few times to kill it all off if you have a lot, and I have some near impossible to get to ones as well!

15 to 30 seconds each. The further away from the laser the longer.

How is this in comparison to the zapper? I have the zapper and the only disadvantage is when you have deep tank you will have to get your hand wet.

are you talking about the majano wand? the laser goes through the glass or from top down, you never get your hand wet and you can hear them sizzle and pop. this can zap other things as well it is leaps and bounds over the majano wand,
