To all the guests who frequent this site. You will be receiving PM's from me on the benifits of becomming paid members. As most of us know is well worth the small Membership fee. I am looking forward to helping to further the expansion of the WMAS Club. Thank You, Bob

I must admit, that to have instant access to answers to ALL kinds of Q"s on fish and corals is well worth the spare change you ask to be a member. How much is ONE fish? What if you could save 10 fish due to the knowledge gained here? Spread the love, be a member.

I will just give my warning that your system will flood, bulbs will burn out, and things will take continuous maintenance... get over it.

Thankyou Skyetone. We have a wonderful opportunity for expansion. With all of our members coral farming we will have the ideal opportunity to attract new members, one free frag will go along way to gain a new member. As our tanks grow so will our hobby. When I first started there were many fine people that were willing to help me get started. Just to name a few ( Mark Peterson, Jeff(bugzme), pistonfister and Suzy to name a few. The more members we have the more information we will gain. By gaining information we can reduce the frustrations of failed systems. People will not leave the hobby due to the expenditures related to being a reef keeper. In SLC we have everything we need to succeed including free Utah rock and oolitic sand. My tanks are 90% Utah rock and sand. Thanks to Mark for the instructions on how and where to get it. I have been very succsesful with seeding sandbeds and pieces of coraline rock free from other members to create a beautiful reef. So, we have the start to attract new members at a reduced cost. My fuge is lighted by a cheap Home Depot light, with some great macro growth. I know many young guests do not have the funds to start. Nanos are great, cheap and addictive. A 12gal nano cost around $100 a couple of free mushrooms and there you go. Additional cost $20.00 for the membership and your on the way to becomming a reef keeper.

I think you guys should chill out a little on the membership push. I think you
are going to make some of the guests uneasy about posting and in the end
joining. I love the club too but I think some of this is going to alienate new
people. Let people feel comfortable here as guests and they will join when
they get more involved.

Just to add my thoughts...
If you are thinking about setting up a tank, but are worried about the money, or experience needed to start and maintain a saltwater tank, it doesn't have to be expensive or difficult. You can start simple. Everyone here is willing to help you get started and get started for as little money as possible. By paying your membership dues, it shows other members that you would like their help. You'd be surprised how many people are willing to help.

I totally agree. Forgive me if my post sounded pushy. It was not ment to be. The benifits of becomming a member has an advantage at many LFS that post and offer a 10% discount. We are also seeing discounts from fellow members who have spent their time and money to save the reefs and share the wealth. As a whole I don't see any problems with a membership drive. The drive is ment to expand the WMAS which in turn will help all of it's members and newly join guests reap the rewards. No one should feel pushed to join, by making a small contribution we will continue to have a club in the future.

My $24.00 membership has saved me at least $40.00 from LFSs and I still have about 8 months left until I need to renew. A very good investment if you ask me.

Bob,
You didn't sound pushy, no sweat. This isn't the thread I’m referring to.
There has just been some other posts that I have gone through and if I
was a new guest I would have been turned off by them. I’m not offended
or anything, don’t read this the wrong way. I think it’s a good idea to mail
them of the benefits of the board, I think publicizing at pet stores is a
good idea, I think it’s a good idea to encourage people to join. But I think
the newer guests are going to feel like they have to commit before
posting/socializing if there are numerous posts talking about peoples
“integrity” floating on the top. I guess I probably should have posted this
on one of the other threads that I am talking about, but I am going to
give it a rest cause I think I’m all alone on this one and I doubt any guests
are going to want to chime in.
whew...

puting up posters and stuff at petstores is a good Idea cause when people that just started a tank or is getting a tank or just doesnt know to much about them would know where to go. you could put those business cards that you get when you get a membership at the cashregisters and I bet you would get a lot more people to join.

Great ideas ! Keep em cumming. I frequent all of our local stores and I will continue to work on this project as my personel contribution. I know myself as do others have friends that are amazed when they look at a living reef for the first time. Our tanks are our best advertisement. I'm pumped!

I paid my membership dues at Marine Aquatics and you could too. Just talk to Eric.
Maybe Mark Peterson should send a email to every guest each month reminding them about the meeting and to come check it out. Along with this email he could mention that they could also pay their membership dues at the meeting and give reasons why they should join the club. After all he sends all the members an email telling them about the meeting. And coming from a presidency member and not just a paid member might also be a little less pushy.

Well i did my part... I paid my dues last night.. How long does it take for it to show me as a "Paid Member"?
Sure wish I had found this board a couple of years ago when I first started my tank.... (that seems to be said a lot around here ) could have saved me $$. Oh well, live and learn
