so i have been watching some videos on line about people making this and i am very interested but i don't know what materials that i can use that wont harm a reef tank and that wont breakdown. if any one has had any experience in this and could give some advice on how you did it and what you used i would love to hear about it. thanks and happy holidays

It's been a while since this has come up.  To me it sounds like a ton of work.

I thought about it too but will probably do the "prime" cuts marcorocks.com offers.

Tyler, if you mean a foam back wall with rock incorporated like in my thread here then the info you need should be in the thread. You are welcome to come by any time and see it. I'm in Murray about 20th East (Highland Drive and Vine St.)

I got the foam through Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQWLCS/ref=oh_details_o07_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used one can of foam for each 18" X 18" piece.

I used one package of the epoxy for two 18" X 18" piece

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Mike

Gorilla Glue has been used for this. It is completely reef safe. It foams up just a little and holds sand and rocks to the glass. I have used it to glue sand to powerheads to camouflage them. Most of us old timers have done this on a tank or two.

I never thought of using gorilla glue. Wouldn't the vapors and chemicals in it be harmful to the tank?

Gorilla glue does work well but I have always seen it used to glue the rock directly to the glass with sand applied in between. The problems I have with that is the rock can not be removed if you change your mind and also the sand between the rocks looks very flat unrealistic IMHO. I like using the foam on the egg crate light diffuser so it can be removed at some point and the foam/sand blend right in with the rock and look more natural to me.
