I have been hard at work on a diy Arduino based controller for those of you that dont know what arduino is its a software developed around building your own electronics with a microprocessors to do programmed tasks it is designed to be affordable and easy to learn this is my first real attempt at making something with it pics to come.

things done (as far as programming none of it is put together into anything that works yet

display with menu
temp read out
heater control with adjustable temps
high/low temp peaks so I can look for swings
alk/cal dosing setup so I select how many ml I want it to dose per day and it dose 1/2 that twice a day
PH readout is programmed but still need to figure out how I want to hook up the probe to the controller
Time (may not seem like much till you do it:;)
ATO control comes on at lower float turns off at higher float (think I am going to change this to turn on every hour and turn off at lower float this will leave the higher available for alarms)

to do
alarms probably get a buzzer so it gets the families attention of a problem
put it all together

this is the whole controller now as it sits in prototype stage it will be mounted into a box shortly

this is the main menu it is rough right now and has things that dont need to be there it displays time ph and temp along with some numbers I displayed to make sure I had my math right for alk/cal dosing

here is how i set my alk/cal dosing

here is temp setup menu

here is my min and max temps resetablemanually

I know the pictures are bad it is hard to take pictures of the dispaly

I have the controller on my tank now it is only running the heater at the moment pics will be coming but I am headed to the mountains this week hopefully I have this thing mounted and running still have some things I need to program but the majority is done

todo
*finish putting the hardware together waiting on a couple parts and floats
*I have a bluetooth module coming this will allow control from my android phone if I can figure out the programming
*take out my reefkeeper light and sell it
*figure out how I want to add PH this will happen after I have sold the reefkeeper
*alarms sounding an alarm I have them on the lcd displaying but need to sound a buzzer or something to get my attention faster then when I happen to look at the screen

Andy, There is a group on another forum that is doing an Arduino based controller that is quite far along. you should check it out.

I just considered that my link may violate the forum rules. If it does please know that I did not do it to break the rules only to pass on information that I knew about. If it needs to be removed please let me know and i will gladly edit the post and remove it. Thanks all and Happy reefing!

I am running my diy controller everything that is going to run through it is running with the exception of ATO still waiting on floats here is a snapshot of the main menu notice the bottom bar says check floats this is an alarm that comes up because the controller said to fill but never reached full level so turned the ato back off till I fix my floats in this case install them

main menu

the controller that needs to go in a project box

here are the outlets from top left to bottom right they control Calcium pump, Alk pump, ato, and heater

I assume you are using Java for the actual code? Which Arduino board are you using?

I got some new pics of the tank today been pretty slow going on this tank just to busy with other things in life some things are a little bleached from a bad float that I was waiting for parts and I flooded the tank with to much fresh water adding top off manually.
