Well the time has finally come to upgrade once again... First off i will tell you all about me. And how i got into this hobby. First off, I am 20, and currently studying architecture at the University of Utah. So yes, I am a poor college student. Anyways this time last year my girlfriend (Now Fiance), went on her anual Hawaii Trip with her family... When she got back she showed me all of her cool pictures of her diving. And needless to say a few days after that we started watching tanked and became hooked... In October of Last year I wanted to start a salt water aquarium. Unfortunately all I could afford at that time was a 10 gallon... Luckily my dad had a lot of equipment when he ran a 55 years back... I first bought book after book and read it... I set up a 10 gallon with a HOB Filter and rocked it for a few months. I kept 3 yellow tail damsels and lawnmower Blenny. My first corals were a mushroom and a single head of a dendro... (Later it got stung and thought it died. It came back with 19 new heads.) I was always watching the fish tank as everyone does... I then found a deal on KSL and soon bought a freshwater Koi 75 gallon fish tank that included Powercompacts, Old school sump, and Skimmer. It had 100 Pounds of Lace rock and Black Sand.. I took the Koi up to my grandparents who have a 20,000 gallon pond and released them in there... I then cleaned the tank and built my own overflow...    I then Loaded it with over 75 Corals... Will post the list later when i put them in the 170. I also added numerous fish. And built my own LED's. My girlfriend, alexa was pretty excited, she decided to give me some ornements :/ Yes I had 2 Tiki's and a sand castle... Luckily Just last week I found my phosphates were creeping up and that was my only solution so I finally took them out... Alexa really loved the fish that wouldnt go well with a reef tank... She was inlove with the clown trigger... I then decided to surprise her with a 29 gallon Biocube... We soon cycled it and added some of her favorite fish Juvenile Clown Trigger, and a Naked Clown Fish w/ anemone... The clown trigger will move to the 75 when everything is transferred over... About a month ago, I almost bought a 180 but it was sold before i could get my hands on it... I knew i needed to get a bigger tank to continue the hobby.

Bill in Washington Terrace had been looking for a tank for me for a few months and he finally found one for me... a 240 for 200... I knew this sounded to good to be true. I set up a time we could meet to look at the tank... The guy said he was doing the dimensions on it and he thought it was bigger than a 240 he said possibly a 270... Even Better!!! Unfortunately when I saw it I knew it wasnt a 270. My guess was it was a 150... Everything that was included.... - 1 Tank Drilled 72"x20"x28" 170 ish gallon
- 1 Stand
- Acrylic 50 Gallon Sump
- 2 Little Giant Pumps
- 1 Weird Filter Thing
- 2 HOB Filters
- Lots of Pipes and Fittings
- Canopy
- And he threw in a 55 gallon as well..
I got all this for $200!!... I had to hire my two meat head friends to help me move the darn thing.. A lot of the wood has water damage and i will be needing to replace it or fix it...

I would double check your tank dimensions. If that is 28" tall it must be only 12" or so wide. Just looking a the tank.
Also load pictures straight from your computer. Easier than photobucket :)

Thats a steal deal! Awsome, too bad some pics arent working! I have 3 corals so far and thought that was alot... 75... well.. Thats awsome. I have seen a picture of your clown trigger somewhere else on this forum, but dont remember where, but it is sooooo cool!

Yeah its growing crazy fast.. So far he isnt messing with the snails or the crabs in there... Not even my Pom Pom Crab.. Im gonna keep working on a pictures..

I know i guess i could do that... Yeah I meant its 6 ft. Long so a 72" my bad.. 72x28x20 my bad hit wrong buttons and wasnt thinking.

 Alright here is the Canopy.. I am guessing the holes are for air circulation... The Canopy does have some water damage.. I will be replacing or fixing the wood depending on how bad it is..

Here is the stand with the tank as well.. The Tank needs to be cleaned... The stand will be painted or stained black after I reinforce the inside of the stand... The Stand is made of Particle board so i dont think that will hold up too long... This is the back of the tank and stand... Now do me a favor look at where the holes are drilled in the tank... The weirdest spots I have ever seen.. Now my question is where and how in the world am i going to pipe this thing and make it pleasing??? The outside holes i was thinking of using a straight pipe and Going straight up and having those be the 2 over flows. The 2 holes in the center of the freaking tank i was thinking of having it be the return but not going all the way to the top of the tank... I was thinking of bulkhead and immediately adding lock line having them push water into lower tank... If that makes sense... But my concern with that is what if the power goes out that thing will drain so fast because they wont be above the water by any means... Should i put a check valve on these? I just heard that subtracts from your GPH your pumps putting out and makes your pump work harder... Thought and suggestions appreciated... What your looking at is from the back of the tank..

Here is a picture of the uncleaned sump that is 50 gallons...  Here are the pumps i will be running... Little Giant Model 4... I dont know how much these push but if i need to i will use both of them and drill another hole in the sump ...

Allright you Aquarium wizards out there there are some things i got with this that i have no clue what they are... So answer away.... Thanks  Is this a canaster filter?? Weird thing is it says to add pure water to it and it has a PSI Guage? Reactor of some kind??

I didn't mean to offend on questioning your tank size. If you look at your first picture you posted after stating the size you will see where my confusion is coming from. It has a black bracing and looks 12" wide.
Your big tank has oak bracing and looks much more in proportions :)
My guess is 2 holes are the drain and return and the other two are for a closed loop. The canister is a filter system. Seldom used any more.
Im seeing several things I would be concerned over. One is there doesn't look like enough room in the stand deck for bulk heads. You will need to open the holes up a lot in order to install and tighten at a later time. You wont be hurting the deck at all to make good access holes.
I would be very careful with that stand. Every body knows I have a thing against particle board stands. Ive seen way to many crash to the ground after a leak. Make sure you reinforce and repair all water damage. 170g is a lot of water.
Edited for tank conversion: A 72x20x28 is 192 gallons ;)

No you didnt offend me at all. . . Yeah i hate particle board too. . . But hey i get what i can take... I will plan on opening the holes on the deck more.. Also will be reinforcing and replacing part of the stand... Hmm ill just throw that canister away then... You say 72x20x28 is 192 gallons?? I did the math and even double checked online.. thats 40320 cubic inches.. that equates to a little over 174 gallons?? Doesnt it?? Hmmm Thanks Dion Let me know.
