Ok, so we ended up with a feather duster in our tank while trying to buy a starfish to help with the algae problem.  (https://utahocean.blogspot.com)

Well last night, our shrimp killed it!!!  I have seen many peppermint shrimp at fish 4 u in the same tank as featehr dusters, but why did my shrimp become a killer?!?!

Has anyone seen this behavior or have an idea why this happened?

Peppermint shrimp are notorious "pickers", most likely would not kill a health feather duster.

A heathy feather duster should be able to retract into its
"tube" so the peppermint cannot get to it.

I would guess that your feather duster may still be alive and has just shed his "feathers".  In this case the peppermint would definate pick at the dead feather parts, and look like he killed the duster.

Well he actually ripped it out, its laying on the botton of our tank now without the clear shell that is still attached to the rock.  There is a piece of it still in the shell on the rock though, but it lost at least half its body to the shrimp.

Might I suggest shrimp cocktail for dinner.

You definitely don't have a camelback shrimp?

Peppermints don't really hurt stuff... They pick and pick, but I haven't
seen them hurt. My crabs are the mean ones... (only to other crabs and
snails)

Not that big, kinda looked smaller then most, I dare say 3 inches or less.  And of course the evil shrimp who we loved so much took at least 1 1/2 of it with him.

Nope he is a peppermint you can see his pic at http://www.wineriter.org/pics/rt/index.html

He was one of the smaller feather dusters in the Fish-4-U tank.  Very small actual feather head...  3" body, rather slim.  Before shrimpy was picking at it, some of his clear shell had come off, so he had some of his black body sticking out.  When the shrimp picked at him, he didn't react well to it, but he also didn't go all the way back into his shell, either.  There is still about half of the black body in his clear tube.. and the tube is more translucent than the typical papyrus-type color I've seen in pics.

What do you think?  Has our shrimp turned psychotic, or was the duster going to die?

And while we're on teh subject of "what the..", our blue & yellow damsel is either losing scales or something on only one side of him.  he has been staying in the cave, without even coming out to eat, for a while.  He now comes out and has what looks like the grey sore on him.

I blame the alien-sea star myself.
