Well I'm out of town for a few days and a friend is staying at my house.  She called me this morning to tell me that my pump on what will be my new little frag tank stopped working.  Now fortunately I'm cycling the tank right now, so I'm not in panic mode, and I'll just deal with it when I get home.  She checked the electrical outlet and no problem with the outlet.  I purchased the pump from my LFS on Saturday and installed it on Saturday.  It is fully emersed so no problem there.  It can't be cruded up because I thoroughly cleaned the tank and all that is in the tank is a few smallish pieces of live rock, together with a small bag of carbon and a bag of filter floss in the back of the tank.

Then this fancy timer that I also purchased at the same LFS just a few weeks ago looses a LOT of time every day.  Every day I have to reset the time on this thing.  Obviously I need to replace it!

Oh and the new skimmer I purchased for my Biocube that I couldn't get to work turned out to also be defective.  I had to send it back.

So .. three pieces of brand new defective aquarium equipment in less than a month.

Am I having back luck or is some aquarium equipment being so mass produced that its not going thru proper testing?  I'm not going to give up on this hobby, but this is really disappointing to me!

Timer from Bird World?  I bought a timer there and it also lost a lot a time every day.  I've had much better luck with timers purchase at the hardware store (plus they're cheaper.)

I just picked up a Milwaukee digital refractometer on Monday.  I put the battery in and it wouldn't calibrate.  It is headed back tomorrow.

All in all, I've had really good luck with equipment.

Yup. When i first got my tank, i bought a timer, i dont know which brand it was though, but it was for a single light, but all the sudden i see the light come on in 3 in the morning, and i kept needing to reset it every day:P FRUSTRATING
