After some research, I've concluded that the lighting setup that will most likely fit my budget and not kill the electrical bill would be a dual 250W setup with some form of fluorescent actinic supplementation.  There are single-ended mogul bulb setups and double-ended bulb setups out there, and I haven't made up my mind yet as to which setup I want.  I would like to be able to have enough light to easily meet the needs of soft and lps corals at first.

What are your opinions on which setup to get- the DE or the SE?

I use SE set-ups ('cause I'm cheap), but you should get more light out of the DE bulbs.

I believe the only significant reason why 250 DEs put out more light is because they use more power (I think I remember them using 300+ watts). Plus, you may have heard someone say "250 DEs put out as much light as 400 watt SEs but use a lot less power". Well, here is the truth.... The reflector used on many of the 250 DE simply focuses the light to be very bright when in a certain area under the reflector. The 400 SEs may only be slightly brighter in that same area, but the spread is FAR better and can light a tank that is much deeper and much wider. The same is true comparing 250 watt DE and SE. The DE will be brighter in certain areas since the bulbs light is more concentrated while the SE bulbs light should have better spread.

I read this in one of Sanjays articles.

120- 4'x2'x2'...

I've read those articles as well, and I thought that the DE reflectors were just doing a better job given the smaller size of the bulb.
