I am going to buy two gold strip clowns for my 30 gallon tank.  I know this will be a very vague question but I would like suggestions on which anenome would work best with this species and tank size, but more importantly how much (more) lighting I will need.  Currently, I have 2 x 55 watt pc (white 7.150K and blue 12K).  The capnella seems to be doing fine and is in direct light.

Thanks,

John

I've got 2 x 55 watt pc on my 37 tall.  My tank is probably 6 inches taller than yours and my anemones are fine.  I have a rbta and a sebae.

Hope that helps,

Brady

Hello everyone,

Quote I know this will be a very vague question but I would like suggestions on which anenome would work best with this species and tank size

Generally speaking R/BTAs are considered the easiest and most tolerant of the host anemones. However I wouldn't put one in a mixed 30 gallon tank. As the anemone grows and splits it will likely cause havoc for your other animals.

PCs are usually considered adequate. Personally I wouldn't use anything less than MH.

Hope that helps,

Chris

Chris,

Right, I don't plan on having much in the tank.  It's only 30 gallons and the gold stripes are rather large (they are a pair and may spawn).  I only have a few polyps and the capnella which is very small and may be transfered to the big tank.   Otherwise, varies macros is all that will be in the tank.

MH on a 30 gallon?  Do they make smaller mh setups?  Sorry, I'm clueless when it comes to lighting.  I'll have to search the web.

Thanks,

John

I wouldnt recommend putting any anemone under less than metal halide lighting. If you really want to try it under PC's, make sure to supplement feed your anemone occassionally. I.e. krill, silversides, etc.

Good luck!

Hello everyone,

Quote MH on a 30 gallon?

Yep, I think a single pendant would work quite nicely.

Quote Do they make smaller mh setups?

They sure do, I've seen them as low as 70w. Personally I would recommend a single 150w or 175w bulb. You'll get more light and the replacement cost for a common 150/175 is less than a 70/100 bulb.

Quote I'll have to search the web.

www.hellolights.com and www.championlighting.com are a couple good places to start.

Hope that helps,

Chris
