Topic: clown killing Starfish!!! Posted: July 19 2011 at 12:59pm |
THAT'S RIGHT!
Has anyone ever had a brittle starfish catch and kill a clown fish???
My clown fish is gone and the body of my starfish is HUGE!!! So that is the only thing I can think of that happened.....not in overflow, nowhere around tank on floor!!!!
Wow I did not think that would ever happen
Anyone in Logan area have a clown for sale......I will be moving the brittle to another tank!!!

As a scavenger, the brittle star most likely found the clown already dead and consumed the carcass.

I don't think it was already dead.....the brittle has been hanging out by the anemones where the clowns sleep....I bet he snatched him while sleeping......i am so sad no matter what happened I just did not know that that would have ever been a possibility. Plus I feed the brittle often because I think it is fun, so he should not have been to hungry!

I've heard that there are types of brittle stars that eat fish and others that are peacful. Do you have a pic?

Is it green? They have been reported to be fish killers, but not too sure of others doing anything other than cleaning up dead fish.

From my reading, I doubt that the banded serpent star would mess with it alive, but sure would it would "clean up" if it had died.
