Anyone ever seen an emerald crab eat xenia?  I bought a good sized Xenia a few days ago and when I got home from work I was admiring it.  Then my emerald crab walked up to it and started trying to rip off one of the arms Angry...  So I scared him away and then this morning the xenia was laying at the bottom of the tank "I glued it to a rock yesterday".  I'm not sure if the crab pulled it off or if my glue job didn't work but I didn't think those crabs would bother anything???

Xenia and many soft coral won't glue but an elastic holds them until they attach within a week in healthy circumstances. There is a trick to it. I'd be happy to show you if you want to come by.

Anything will eat anything if it's hungry enough. If I'm not mistaken, your tank is new. The Emerald Crab is starving.

My tank is about 3 mos old.  I guess he could be starving but he's molted once and has grown a LOT since I put him in.  He's molted at least once, there is plenty of algea in my tank but you may be correct. I wish I didn't live so far or I would come down.  I just don't have a lot of time between work/school.

My emerald started to eat my acro. I had to chase him away all the time. And I had plenty of hair algea. Eventually I put pellets in the tank and he ate that instead..... dirty rotten bugger died on me, after that and I had to get a fleet of snails to do the job he was suppposted to do in the first place

Thumbs Up
Snails are the solution to 95% of all algae control. I'm obsessed with never again having an Ugly Green Haired Mermaid.

Well, tonight I was looking the tank over before I shut off the lights for the night and I noticed my Xenia was gone, again!  I looked all over the stupid tank for it.  Then, I noticed that crab had pulled it off the rock and hauled it up in between some rocks and was eating it like crazy Angry.  So I picked up the rock it was on and pulled the crab off the xenia and put him in my sump Evil Smile!  He did quite a number on my xenia though :(  I think it will be ok though.  I can't believe how hard that crab was to pull off the rock, I didn't think I was going to get him off, he's a strong little guy.
