I added a little more LR to my system a couple of months ago, and the other night I noticed a tiny crab crawling around in one rock.  I'm not really familiar with crabs so I need some help identifying this guy just to see if he's safe or not.  Just in case I've pulled him out for now.


He's quite small - smaller than a dime with legs extended.

Thanks SGH360.  That was a helpful article.  I believe my crab looks most like on of the xanthid species.  I'm inclined to remove him from the main tank.  the question now is whether to put him into the sump or just feed him to my puffer.  Since I'm trying to culture various -pods in the sump, I'm guessing the crab won't help that process.

Yeah I dropped him into the tank with my puffer and he scurried under a rock. I didn't get a picture, but I doubt he survived long.
