I have a 48" 4 bulb T5HO fixture.  Tank is new so gradually getting things put into it.  I was wondering what lights would look good for a 4 bulb system.  Right now I just have the bulbs that came with the fixture which are 2 x 54w WavePoint Sun Wave Super Daylight 12K and 2 x 54w WavePoint Blue Wave Super Blue Actinic 460.

Also, I noticed that my solar powered LED moonlight ($4 landscaping Home Depot version) does not appear to charge up under my flourescent lights.  I have to set it outside during the day to charge up.  Do they charge under a different wavelength than what I have?

For a 4 bulb I would run 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and 1 ATI Purple Plus.

That is what I run for 4 bulb and love it.

Also if you are using a Wavepoint fixture you really need to get some external fans blowing on the fixture to help cool things down.

Thanks for the advice.  I do have a fan pointed between the water and fixture however my temperature stays between 76-79 without the fan on.  Do I need the fan for the fixture itself or just to keep my water temp within range?

One other question, where do you purchase these bulbs?  I don't recall seeing them at any of the LFS that I have been to recently.

Reef Runners had in all of those bulbs last time I was there. It would be a long drive for you though. I would order through Reefgeek like Badfinger mentioned.

He usually has 4 different bulbs in stock. All 48".

ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
KZ Fiji Purple
GE 6500K

With the new ATI Purple Plus I bet he will start carrying that instead of the Fiji Purple. It is like $10 cheaper a bulb.

He was going to order some 36" versions of the above bulbs but forgot to on this order. He does have a couple 24" bulbs in right now too. They are Giesemann and I don't know colors.

I think im going to try
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
ATI Purple Plus

I've seen a few pictures of this combo, and everyone that has done it seems to love the color combo. I'm a big fan of the blue-ish color, so hopefully it will work out. If its too blue i'll swap an aquablue or blue plus for a GE 6500k

IMO, that combo is pretty close to a 50/50 tank... I tried that combo and it was too yellow for me still. I too am a big fan of a blue-ish tank (20k-22k)... if anybody wants to come check out my setup feel more then free.. I am running a 6 bulb but can turn off 2 of the bulbs and show the difference in color (I think I can get that combo, and with one more blue too)

Would you suggest going for 3 blue + and a Purple, or the aqua blue like you went with?

If you want to see two blue plus, one aquablue and one purple in action, come on over.

I would recommend moving your bulbs around though. Don't clump the blues at the front.

I went
Front
Blue+
Blue+
Aquablue
Blue+
Back

Not saying that taking out one blue+ for a fiji purple looks bad, still looks really good. Just too yellow for my taste. Most people I showed that I had 3 blues and 1 white were amazed, cause white really over powers the blue.

Going with 3 blues and a purple is not way too far off from the one above... to me it just gave it a little bit of a red hue I didn't like.

Ryan,
Do you have one Blue+ in the front and one in the back with the aquablue and purple in the middle?

Thanks for all the feedback.

Right on!

Mine goes

Blue plus
Aquable
Purple
Blue plus

I have a blue plus and purple turn on for dusk dawn and love it. I've thought about changing out the aquablue for either another blue plus or an actinic bulb. The actinic will make it really blue and lose PAR but with my ati sunpower I have a ton of par as is.

Put in the new bulbs last night.  They look great.  Now I need more corals in my tank so I can take full advantage of the new colors.

Thanks for the help Badfinger, Ryan and Ahanix.

I too love the look of a really blue tank but i wonder if corals suffer from using no daylight bulbs say 10K or less in the mix?
Life is good....right?

I consider the purple bulbs as daylight. I don't have any bulbs that are 10k or less. My aquablue is more 12k.

Corals use more red and blue then anything else. They use very little green and yellow actually.

Ryan is there much noticable difference in color to the naked eye between the blue plus and the purple plus?

From the chart they look pretty close:

Blue plus

Purple plus
