That image is funny. I like it. I've felt that way myself the last few days.
Just for the record, a hydrometer that is calibrated and then kept clean
by rinsing in freshwater after each use and given a periodic vinegar bath when it
starts to look cloudy, is just as useful as a Refractometer. Yes, it is.

I guess the other thing that comes to my mind is that people worry too much about salinity. Between 1.022 and 1.028 is just fine so long as it does not get raised by oh, let's say .005 in less than an hour. (I'm not sure why, maybe it's the action of a big rain storm, but a fast decrease is no big deal, like when adding a lot of freshwater for topoff).
So you can stop fretting. It's okay. Don't worry. Be happy.
