I am looking for some input on a potential upgrade to my tank.

I have a BioCube 29 with stock hood and the middle chamber mod (scraped paint off back and mounted light for refugium). I am looking at 2 upgrades:

Upgrade 1: I have a korilia nano and the stock pump. I am looking at going to a larger pump and getting a loc-line setup to increase flow in the tank.

Upgrade 2: I am considering a lighting upgrade to a metal halide and taking off the hood. I have concerns with this one as far as noise/fish jumping out.

I have money to do 1 of the 2 options but not both. My lighting is the stock lighting and my water flow is not horrible, but could be better. Just looking for some advice.

Well depending on what you want to spend I can see a few options.

1) As for the pump, sell the K Nano and get a Vortech MP10. No need to touch the return pump.

2) Go with a Metal Halide setup over the tank with a good bulb like the Phoenix 14K.

I currently have a Hamilton Tech MH fixture over my Nano Cube. It is the 150W version and I have upgraded to the Phoenix bulb. I also built a screen that goes over my tank so fish can't jump.

Here is a picture:

I will be selling my setup here in the next couple weeks if you are interested in the light. Right now I am in talks with someone about the light. If they back out I can let you know.

If you want to do something with the flow a good cheap upgrade for the Bio 29 is getting a Hydor Flo added. Cheap and easy. http://www.marinedepot.com/wavemakers_filters_hydor_bioflo_bio_flo_aerobic-ap.html. I think this is better than loc line.

As for the lights someone was selling a sunpod on here for really cheap in the buy sell section. We have both a sunpod and hydor flo in our bio 29 and it works really well. If you really want to upgrade flow even more just get a koralia 1. I don't see why you can't do both upgrades for less then the price of one retail.
None at the moment
