So I moved my 90 gallon tank to it's new stand on Friday. Today I went back to check up on my other tank and to clean up a bit. As I was cleaning the glass I noticed a crack in the black plastic bracing on the bottom of the tank! It's right by the center brace. It's cracked all the way through as far as I can tell. I don't know when or how this crack appeared. I'm baffled.

What can I do? Is the tank done for? Can it be fixed? Any help is appreciated.

Here are a few crappy pics taken with my cell phone.

I think we discussed this ad naseum over a year ago, but to make a long story short- check for split seams in the silicone first, and if there aren't any split seams or cracked glass panels, it should be fine. The black plastic surround at the base isn't really that functional for resisting the hydrostatic pressure- the glass and silicone do all the work.

Temperature shock, age, etc. can all crack the plastic.

Hope this helps

I was thinking temp shock. It had been in my car all day and cold. Then we brought it and set it up on the stand. Should I worry about fixing it at all?

I've read elsewhere and it seems that most people agree that it's mostly cosmetic. Still, I don't want 90g of salt water poring out into my office.

Be sure to check it visually, then fill it partially with tap water and watch for leaks. A dry paper towel under the tank can show a leak when the water wicks into it.

After that, I'd be okay with it. Is it still under warranty?
