My new peppermint shrimp just molted. I was shocked! at first I thought his molt was some aptasia cuz he stuck it under a rock toward the front of the tank. Anyways, I've only had him for about a week. How often can I expect him to molt?

I have a fire shrimp that molts about every 2 weeks, I'm not sure if that is good or not but I think he is dead every time I see it.

About every 14 days.... it's a good sign.

what should I do with the molt? Take it out? Does anything eat it that would be beneficial to leave it on for?

Lots of organisms will eat it. It's made partly of Calcium so it's a good thing to leave in.

Ok. I'll leave it in. I'd like this aquarium to have a good eco system that requires little tweaking. So leaving in a little shrimp molt doesn't bother me as long as it's doing some good.

As Adam said, molting is a good sign of a healthy shrimp. I've got 2 peppermint shrimp and 2 cleaners and I get a molt floating around every few weeks (that I see). I just leave it in, it will disappear in a day or two.

I always leave the molts in as well. They usually are gone in a day. I figure that it gives my hermits something to munch on.

I have one cleaner, 2 firecrackers, and 3-4 peppermints. It's always floating around, but I'm glad to know that I should leave it. My arrow crab tends to much on it. He's the biggest pig ever. I don't know where he puts it all.
