I was talking with Erik at Marine Aquatics and he suggested I dip my acans in Tetracycline. My acans have pink skeletons and that is supposed to be a bacterial infection. From what I have read the coral will eventually die.

Erik was saying that the coral lets go of its skeleton to get away from the infection. Sounds about right from what I have seen.

He suggested I dip the corals in Tetracycline for 2-4 minutes. Has anyone here ever dipped in this stuff? Does anyone know where I can get some?

I have read it is used quite a bit in freshwater stuff so I though I may check PetsMart and Petco and even Tropical Fish Wholesale.

Any ideas?

I tried Reef Dip from Seachem. It is just an iodine dip but it didn't do anything for it.

LOL Skyler!

I am not gonna risk jail for my tank. Well I might steal some stuff out of Brad Syphus' tank and risk jail but not for drugs. That just makes me look like a junky!

I did however find this stuff:

I could dissolve those in some tank water and then try to treat the coral. Every site I have found says to only use that stuff in freshwater though. I wonder if it would kill all bacteria found in a reef tank.

That is the thing though, none of the polyps are receding or dying at this point. They are as inflated as ever and look great. I can just see pink skeleton and some white skeleton when they close up at night. So far nothing is dying but it is just a matter of time.

Again this is all speculation at this point as I can't find any concrete evidence about what causes the pink skeleton. I was reading a post on Nano Reef where a guy was having issues with his acans and when he posted pics they had pink skeletons. Some other member got on and explained on Eric Borneman had researched the issue and found it to be bacterial and it will eventually kill the coral.
