Does anything eat this stuff?  My nano is covered in it, and my 125 has a little bit here and there.  If nothing eats it, what is the best way to get rid of it?

Some snails are touted as eaters of it. The best way to irradicate it is to increase the flow, decrease the nutrients, (superman jr needs to stop feeding Cheerios to it) and decrease your lighting schedule. I'm working on a little in my new tank and it is frusterating.

And yes the chemical works great. However it just masks the underlying problems.

Water changes huh.... maybe I should start those up again Big smile

Honestly I think more flow and water changes will probably fix the problem over time, I'm just looking for a quick fix I guess... I've just been lazy the last few months, and I guess it's starting to show...

What chemicals will get rid of it, temporarily?  I'm hoping to get rid of it, and then be better about taking care of my tank to keep it away permanently.

I am at the tail end of my red slime treatment today... getting ready to do my water change.  It seems to have tackled my small problem.  It says on the box ... treat every 30 days!  Is that like the back of the shampoo bottle that says. "Lather, Rinse and Repeat?"

I have been using this stuff in my 37 Hex "almost-a-nano" :

Not meant specifically for 'Red Slime' but more for general nO3 and pO4 control... in my case , I have no sump or skimmer or fuge on my 37g, just a small HOB powerfilter and a single Korallia... the HOB filter uses those slide in filter cartridges; I just slice open the top of the cartridge and pour 1/2 of a pouch of this stuff in so it mixes with the carbon from the cartridge. I change the cartridge once amonth, along w/ a 5g water change.

Between that and the flow from the Korallia (#3), I don't have any cyano issues...

You could probably put some of this into any type of media reactor, or even into a media bag and just hang it near a powerhead, or in your sump if you have one...

Bob,

Where did you get that stuff at?  I think I may try that before I pour more chemicals into my tank.

PetSmart, actually... I think it was $6.99 - $7.99 for the box

So far I am very happy with using it on the 37g tank

I was told that water changes are bad for Cyano. They add stuff to the water that feeds the cyano. Correct me if im wrong, but that is just what I heard

IF you use tap water, then possibly bad... depending what is in your tap

IF you go with RO or RO/DI, then WCs won't "feed" cyano
