Hello all.
My tank has been cycling 2 weeks now (The waiting is just killing me) and today after work I noticed this brownish/yellow growth. The picture is of the largest one. There a few spots here and there. I was wondering if this was a good sign or a bad sign? I don't recall ever seeing this type of growth in the past.
have your tank water tested before adding snails and crabs. I would say you will want about 20 snails and 20 crabs for your tank. I would also look into getting a Turbo Snail. I love both of mine and hair algae has all but disappeared since adding them.
There is no need to wait. Add some macroalgae and turn on the lights 24/7 for a 2-5 days and the cycling process will disappear. Read more about it and other tips here: http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9244

Thanks for the awesome tips. I actually had my water tested today and my nitrates were seemingly at 0! My phospate was a tad high, but I scored a cleanup crew anyway! I got some GFO and a bag to hopefully calm it down soon. I hope to get a reactor soon to hold both GFO and carbon. Here is a pic of my favorite things ever! Shrimp! woohoo.
Meet George.
My crew: 1 Large Red Emerald Crab (Sebastian), 1 Peppermint Shrimp (George), 1 Brittle Star and 25 Snails. They were out of crabs for now, but in a few days I will go get 25 crabs (as soon as the shipment comes in).
Here is what a customer said while on hold Oh my gosh! Did you open the door? I told you not to open the door. Dre is in here completely naked and he's got freak'n Macaroni and Cheese in his hands.
