Topic: Reef safe angel? Posted: May 20 2008 at 6:17pm |
I am setting up my girlie tank :) The fish will be mostly yellows, pinks and purples. I plan on anthias, wrasses, firefish, assessor, shrimp, and some type of goby and blenny (suggestions?) I want an angel but I thought I would check with you guys and see what kinds you have had success with in a reef tank. Its a 90g so probably a dwarf. Also, would a tang get along with an angel? Was thinking of yellow or black (I know, weird.)
Thanks,
Wendy

A Midas or Canary Blenny would be pretty. A male Yellow Watchman goby could work too. I would also consider a Pearly Jawfish. They have a yellow head and light blue body.

Very nice suggestions Mike :) I am writing them on the list. What do you suggest for good sand sifting?
This is so fun!

Wendy / Mark -
My Coral Beauty and Flame Angel have both been fine in with corals, clams, etc... and they get along fine with each other as well as Tangs...
Of the 2, I would say the Flame is a little more docile - but I think either one would be a good choice in a Reef setting.
Mike -
I recall seeing a goby (maybe it was a blenny?) at BW awhile back that was cream colored, maybe 2 - 3" long, not too fancy, but all it did was suck in mouthfuls of sand, swish it around it's mouth, then spit it back out... seemed like it would make a great 'sand sifter'...
Any idea which species I am referring to? I think I would like to get 1 or 2 of those myself for the 225...

It sounds like a Sleeper Goby. I'm not a fan of sand sifters. They can keep the sand clean and looking nice but they can deplete the sandbed of critters too. Once the tank is 6 months old or more I would put in a cucumber though.

Oh, yeah. They can also bury corals that are on or near the sandbed.
I do like dwarf angels but I had one that ate one of my Pocilloporas so I don't have one now.

Try convincing my wife that , I like mine though. Here is a couple pictures Wendy
This goby hardly does any sand sifting, very clean fish.
Wendy you didn't even say hi to me at Marine Aquatics on Sunday, Mark did though. Uhuh I see how you are

I am sorry! I did see half the board there, just not you. HI!! Why didn't you say hi to me?
Thanks for the pics. Think a pink spot would get along with a watchman and a sleeper or other sand sifter? I like so many gobies and blennies and I am sad that they don't like each other.

I said Hi to Mark, you were busy spending money and I am smart enough to know not to get in the way of that .
The shrimp is a Bullseye Pistol, $30.00 at Aquatica.
When he snaps his claw you can hear it across the room!

Its a cool shrimp :) Mark should have grabbed me to say hi. Yeah I was spending money, on my girlie tank lol. It has water and rock now, just waiting for the cycle to end. I was hoping it would be a short one with all the seed water and live rock but the ammonia is still high. I wonder if some of that rock wasn't quite cured. I am excited to add fish!
