Topic: RO Units Posted: May 15 2004 at 10:00pm |
Hello all,
It has certainly been a while since I have posted. My family consumes a lot of distilled water. So much so recently it seems buying an RO unit would save a lot of money. MY mom is all for it and I have found a good one but she wants to know if the ones you guys got from filterdirect on e-bay had any problems...Beware

If you would like to conserve water and not waste the 4-5 gallons of water going down the drain for every one gallon produced by the R.O. unit, there are two perfectly reasonable alternatives.

I got my RO from Marine Aqautics and it was a good price. I don't
know what they sell for on the net. It was easy to install and
makes great water. I still have to have it attached directly to
the tank but that was another days work to figure out how to run the
lines and set up the float. When I drink the water it is
good. I don't have it hooked up to a sink, but it could be.
It comes with all the parts.

Filter Direct's Store: http://stores.ebay.com/Filter-Direct-store_W0QQsspagenameZl2 QQtZkm
Prices for 100 gpd units are $90 - $115 depending on what you want. There are other equally good on-line places or you can get one from your LFS.

Well mark... Want to ellaborate? I too feel it is a waste to the environment on RO water makers. My mom has one. They do make better / cleaner water, but at a great waste percentage.

I will just give my warning that your system will flood, bulbs will burn out, and things will take continuous maintenance... get over it.

run your drain out to your lawn or flowers that is what I do and it works great. also Marine Aquatics has a better filter than the one Filter direct is offering and you could get it today.

tom-, why do you think Marine Aquatics has a better RO unit? The one I've seen for sale in there is a Water General 5 stage RO/DI... the exact same one Filter Direct sells. Do you have reason to believe that they're different? But you're right about getting it today from MA and you'll get all the installation advice you need from Eric.

Besides recommending Kold-Steril, I suggest checking out a special recirculating method for R.O. wastewater, mentioned in a thread here some time ago.
The only reason I can figure why these other methods are not used is lack of information or marketing.
Just because everyone seems to use something, does not mean it's the best or only way!

I thought I did answer your question...
Quality is fine and I've never had a need for the warranty.
