Ich, what is it?

Okay, so I think I have Ich in my system. I noticed a little white spot on my Tomato's dorsal fin yesterday and some smaller ones on his face. The other fish wouldn't stay still long enough for me to see them. Do I need to freak out over this or is it something common in the fish world? This is my first tank so everything is kind of bugging me right now. I have been told to put garlic extract in the food for the tank. Does this actually work? Is there anything I need to watch out for? Anything else I can do to get this cleared up? Is this normal and just happens? Please help!

And yes Garlic helps. However you need to make sure your water parameters are in line otherwise your fish will succumb anyway. (salinity is my biggest concern at this moment)
