I have been using Red Sea's Ammonia Test Kit since starting my Nano tank.  At first I got a slight ammonia reading and I contributed that to cycling and initial spike.  It then slowly diminished to what I thought was 0 ammonia.  (Colors can and are deceiving.)  Being the obsessed newbie that I am and after observing my xenia and toarch coral retracting and otherwise reacting to lighting, photo periods and water changes, I decided to test the tank water and RO water at the same time.  After comparing the two colors I decided that there were some slight traces of ammonia in the tank water if the RO water (I assume) did not have any.  My question is:  Are there better kits available that would be more user friendly to an old and failing set of eyes?  I have always bee less than satisfied with the color graduations of the Red Sea Ammonia Test Kit.  Suggestions?  Also, if the tank water does have some trace of ammonia, is there a product that will effectively absorb ammonia without affecting other water parameters?

I've used the Seachem and Hagen ammonia kits.  The Seachem is a little disc that you place in the water and watch it change color.  The kit I had never showed ammonia even though the tank was in the first stages of cycling.  The Hagen kit shows ammonia in everything, RO water, tap water, tank water.  Needless to say, I don't like any of them.  I'd maybe give the Salifert a try.

Although, IMO ammonia and nitrite tests are only useful in the first couple weeks or months of a tank's life.  After that, I never test again.
