I recovered one of the Mythrax crabs from the last frag fest.
Since then, the thing has become HUGE.
(No, I couldn't get a picture, it went and hid.)
The front legs with the claws are over 2" long!
His body is 1" across and with his legs spread out I would guess he is ~3-4" wide.
It is larger than any of my other mythrax but it looks the same.

Is it a mythrax? ( I will try to get a picture)
It was picking at my Zoo's
Should I move it out of the display?

I was reading an article yesterday by A. Calfo and it is his opinion that when the inhabitants like mythrax crabs eat anything other than their "normal" diet it is because our tanks are lacking in that/those foods.  Mine looks like it is picking at the coral but as I watch it closely it is actually picking at the algae on the corals.  Watch yours and see if this is the case.

I agree several times I have thought that my Emerald crabs were picking at coral, only to realize they never did any damage and must be picking at algae on the coral.

Thanks, I was aware of that but it was actually picking off whole zoo's and stuffing them in his mouth.

My question is it really a Mythrax?
Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to identify this crab and until I can get a picture, I was curious if it struck a chord.

I feed mine some algea from the sump, I let it stick to the inlet of the closed loop for them.

sounds like it's hungry.
looks like you can feed more.

IMO&E, not all "Emerald Crabs" are the same. I would remove it. It will probably only get worse.

Is this a Mythrax?

I finally cornered him as he was pulling polyps off some coral.
He is now down in my sump with all of my mangroves.
Hopefully He can't damage anything down there.
But now I know why my corals were not extending and dying.

It is funny I never sam it before Thursday considering how big it is.
