forgive me if this is a stupid question. i am still new at the hobby. i received my mag-drive 7 pump. it came with metal screws on it to hold the plate down over the inlet of the pump. i thought that you couldn't have any metal on something that you put into a saltwater aquarium. is it safe to put this in my tank? on the box it does say that the pump can be used for saltwater and freshwater.
My friend there is hardly never a stupid question. I have a mag7,12,18 and a 3 in service right now. All have the metal screws, and all of them have some rust on them. You will find mag pumps on protein skimmers, calcium reactors etc from the manufacture. Don't worry about it. There wouldn't be enough rust to harm your tank. (just remember to clean the pumps periodically)
