Found this behind a bunch of stuff in the garage.  Ive had it for about 4 years now and never used it.  Since I have it and and extra RIO2500 I figure I may as well put it to use.  Just a couple questions.

1- Can I put this directly in the sump and allow the exhaust water to vent right into the sump or does it need to be on a stand inside the sump and exhaust above the water line to limit the backflow of the water.

2- Would I be better off to mount externally and drill a bulkhead.

3- Can I mount this skimmer externally and pump it over the top of the sump and into my filter sock (this is what I would prefer).  Just worried that pumping the exhaust water over the top will also create backpressure.

4- Any idea what kind of skimmer this is and how well it will work?

Thanks in advance for all your kind responsed.  WMAS rocks!!

ETS or ETSS, I'm not certain of the difference in models.

It's a very good skimmer. It can be placed in or out of sump. Tank water is sprayed in at high pressure past an air inlet down over the bioballs as a frothy mixture and moves into the black box. The gate valve determines the water level in the first clear tube. The water-foam line should be kept only about 2-3 inches above the top of the black box. Any higher than that can unexpectedly create a watery overflow. Since the gate valve controls the back pressure of water in the box/tube, the exiting water cannot be forced up too far, so the skimmer is best kept at sump level or raised slightly .

Hope that helps. What other cool stuff is in your garage?

Oh, and the pipe on the outflow side of the gate valve is not required when the unit sits in a sump.
