I got my first LT anemone on Friday and my Tomato Clown has been moving it all over the place. Well some where in the process the anemone brushed up against my beautiful Plate Coral. Today the side where the plate coral got touched has like a white fuzzy looking cream all over it. I'm wondering if it is doomed or if not if there is anything that I can do? Any help would be appreciated. The Tomato has been moved to the sump until the anemone finds its home.

take your baster and suck that stuff off, it is defense slime. i don't think it is healthy for the tank if it comes off and starts to float around, as long as the tissue doesn't start "falling off" the calcium skeleton it will be ok. That orange one in the center of my tank has been stung before by the frogspawn and it came out of it

good job on cathing the clown, i have tried with mine the last few times and he always gets away

Ryan, Was the Tomato Clown actually moving the anemone!

Do you now have the WMAS Fish Trap? Is that how you caught it?

Adam thinks they should be called Anemonefish. That's quite a mouthful to say. What does everyone else think?

I don't THINK they should be called anemonefishes, they ARE called anemonefishes.  I can't help it if people (like Jake) misspeak and use improper terms

Come to a meeting, they’re fun!

Yes it was actually moving it all over the place! It would go down practically in it and swim with it and then drop it. I've never seen anything quite like it. I don't have the trap yet. He is quite the pig, so if I feed the fish he is very easy to catch. By the way while he's in the refugium and easy to get to, if anybody wants him for a cheap frag he is yours!

Any ideas on the long tentacle plate coral?

Ryan, I believe the white creamy stuff on the plate coral is probably dead. It is good to suck it off the coral and out of the tank because it is decaying mass. Rarely have I seen fungia recover from this, but don't give up hope. That us quite strange to see a damsel (there's another word for you two are can argue over) move an anemone. He was probably just trying to nestle in but the LTA hadn't got a hold with its foot yet.

Mark & Adam, who cares what they are called. Just like sinularia and nepthia. I can think of better stuff to argue about. hehe...

Marcus, your right! I didn't have the LTA in there for more than 5 minutes before the Tomato went to town with it.(It never had a chance to get a hold) I feel bad about the fungia, I've had it for quite a while and was probably one of my favorite pieces.

By the way, what is one of yours or others favorite clowns to try and host in an LTA? Are there any that don't get quite as aggresive as the Tomato.

Also, other than sucking off the dead matter is there anything I can do for it?

Ryan, as for the fungia, just keep it in good water conditions and hope for the best. Inverts in your tank may try to eat the dead flesh so you may want to try and cover it with something so that they can't get to it. But it has to let water and light in.

As for less aggressive clowns, Ocellaris and Perculas seem to be the calmest. Everything else for the most part seem to get aggressive. Every case is different though. I am going to get a Malu anemone and 10 Ocellaris clowns in my new tank.

Thanks for the info. I'll give that a try. I suctioned off the crap and it doesn't look real good. That should be impressive with the Malu and Ocellaris! I've seen some real impressive Malu Anemones lately.

Anemone fishes do try to move anemones. I had a mated pair of Maroons and the female would tug at the tentacles to get them to move. The crappy thing about it was that in the process of trying to move them she would tear all the tentacles off completely and all that was left was the stump. I moved her to the sump the first time she did this to see if it would change her and after two months I put her back in the main tank and she did it again the first night.
I'm not sure I should finish the story for the weak at heart but she is no longer in my tank. Let's just put it that way.

It's no argument, just some ongoing teasing, poking fun at our idiosyncracies.
For instance, did you know that Adam will not touch seafood?
Personally, I feel that is very consciencious of him. As for me, I have no defense. I'm just an ordinary carnivore because I love fish, crab and shrimp!

Mark, I am right with you on that. I love seafood but only when they fish is raw (hint, hint...sushi!!). Eel is very good also. My buddies always tease me by saying things like, "If there's a food shortage, you'll be okay since you have fish in your tank."
Then again, I do NOT make salad out of my caulerpa like Adam does.

Well not to change the subject(back to me original post). I love how our posts morph! The Plate Coral didn't make it!

Marcus - Perc's don't normally host in LTA's right?

Sorry to hear about your loss Ryan.  I hate it when something in my tank dies.

Thanks Sean - I was pretty bummed this morning when I pulled it out! It was probably one of my favorite corals. The real bummer is I didn't really want the LTA and let me wife talk me into it. Oh, well!

Perc's will host in LTA's. Why do you think they wouldn't?
