Has anybody ever been to this aquarium?  It is in Long Beach CA.  I am heading to CA in two weeks and was thinking about going there.  Anybody have other suggestions as well?

I have.  The aquarium is okay.  It really depends on what displays they have going at the time.

I have been there also.. Like Jake said, Its "ok". On my 1 -10 aquarium scale I'd give it a 6 with one point for it being so new.

While on the topic ... What aquariums have people been to and what are the best? I hit aquariums everytime I travel and would love to know which ones not to miss!

I was there shortly after they opened up (6 or so yrs ago).  Their live reef displays were lacking, but the ray petting pool and large big fish display were nice.  I've since heard that they've upgraded the reef stuff to be pretty nice.

I was there two years ago and I thought it was well worth going to. I thought it was a lot nicer than Scripps in San Diego.  But hey, I would go to both again...

Its been a while since i have been there, but I remember the Monterey Bay aquarium being really good.  A few years ago I went to the aquarium on New Orleans, and that was good, but a little small.  Also the newer one in Maui was neat but it was mostly dedicated to the indigenous fish and life found in Hawaii, which you could see better by diving (which I did and it was awesome!)  They also have a tunnel made of acrylic (super thick acrylic that is) that the sharks, rays and fish could swim around while you were in it.. again kinda neat to see that.  I guess I liked it more than many people would because i have this weird fascination with green sea turtles...

I just went to the National Aquarium in Baltimore last week.  It's one of the better ones.  It has a great shark display and on of the best ray displays. It also has one large SeaHorse tank thank rivals anything Scripts has.  It has a 200g tall cyclinder tank that had a herd of 15-20 giants yellow and reds hippos?.  The water column was milky with all the baby seahorses swimming around. Suzy would have loved it.
For  sps, its hard to beat the Honlulu Aquarium, their outsite grow tank in pretty amazing and of course their giant clams.  If your ever up in Seattle it has a sleeper of an aquarium.  Doesn't look like much on the outside but great displays inside.
And last and definitley least is the "National Aquarium" in DC. I posted once that its like going to our fairground and looking at the trout tanks

I was going to go there, but ended up not. Spent too much time in
catalina. They just opened some cool exhibits from what I understand...
Deep water, and wierd stuff.

I guess the best aquariums (US) are in chicago, is that true?

I didn't really like the "Shed" aquarium in Chicago. It was kinda old. Of course I judge on their sps tanks.    The New Jersey aquarium  across the river from Philadelphia is also nice.

I liked it a lot.  There were only two reef tanks, but they are well-maintained.  The weedy and leafy sea dragon exhibits were second to none.   You'll have a good time there.

I'll put in another vote for Monterey Bay as being a good place.
