I started a 29 gallon biocube about a month and half ago with dry rock and dry sand. I seeded my tank with some live rock and sand from an established tank.

My cycle ended about a 3 weeks ago and a bunch of brown algae showed up. I added my clean up crew and did a bunch of water changes to get my nitrates down. Just recently a bright green algae has started to show up on my rocks. After doing some research it looks like it's coralline algae.

I am planning on adding an firefish and some chromis after next week, and I want to add some coral around the middle of july.

The only levels i have been testing for are  salinity, amonia, nitrite, and nitrate. I plan on testing for the necessary items to keep coral after I add my fish.

I would like to get some input on what you guys think about the neon green algae and do I need to change anything.

It starts green and turns purple later on.  At least that's what it is doing in my 9 mo. old tank.  I'm not even sure if it's coraline.  It does fade with time.  I wouldn't use it as a good or bad water quality indicator.  Keep your levels in check, ca, ma, alk and watch for ammonia spikes.  Don't stock too quickly!  Get something alive in there soon, like softy corals or some macro algae.  Good luck and check in let us know how it goes.

+1 what Preston said. Thumbs Up

Thanks for posting pics of the tank.

Always do Soft Coral before fish. There are hundreds of beautiful soft coral. Coral filter the water. Fish pollute the water.

Did you know that beautiful Macroalgae would have made the tank ready in 1 week? You could have been enjoying your reef for more than a month already. Smile

Now that algae is growing on surfaces, and before it gets out of control, it's time to add a couple Snails. Then add more Snails as the tank grows to keep nuisance algae from growing out of control. In the surf zone in the wild there is a snail every 5 inches.

The Reefkeeping Tips thread, see link below, pretty much covers all this.
