Topic: Acropora and you! Posted: March 21 2005 at 1:51pm |
check this out. pretty cool what's out there.
Acropora millepora (Hayward et. at. 2004)
and YOU!
we all looked the same the first days of our lives. neat huh? So now researchers have found that cnidarians may have mirror symetry like us and they may not be diploblastic like everyone has always assumed. We are all one! Somewhere in the waaay back a coral like critter was our grandad!

I looked like that before I was born ...it's a good thing I waited nine months or I'd be the ugliest person alive.

I've always wanted to build a human skeleton out of live rock and then fill it with different coral for the organs.
Brain coral in the head, anemone for the stomach, sponge for the lungs, etc.
That would be cool. Wierd, but cool.

Jared, I've got a nice pink finger leather if you find yourself in need of an appendix. Or I could bring over a big fan in hopes that you might get some fresh air.

I must be the only one sick enough to find Jared's idea intriguing! Use aggrocreate to form the skeleton (laying in your tank). Then fill it with corals to mimic organs! Brilliant!

woods polyps = hair lobophyllia = brain polyphyllia = tongue medusa worm = throat red ball sponge = lungs pom pom xenia = heart ('cause it pumps ) blastamussa = kidneys sea apple = stomach a large sympyllia = intestines Jamison's pink leather = appendix green star polyps = leg/arm hair acropora = hands/feet
What else...

green star polyps for arm hair? That's oookey! Or just plain "eww!!" Yuck! How about a brownish colored encrusting gorgonian instead?

You could use two Metalic Blue Mushrooms for the eyes. This I think would look better than button polyps or large zoos.
Another sick thought, you could probably buy a fake skeleton(like they use at schools) made of plastic or ceramic put that in the tank and wait for the coraline to grow over it. It would make the overall effect look more real and possibly raise questions as to "who" is in the tank?
Weird.

Please take that pic off, add a copywrite, and post it again. I would absolutely love to use it in a presentation or article. That is sooooo cool.

Oh come on.. you have GOT to put feather dusters for eye lashes! They may have no other purpose than to remind people of eye lashes!
I love the pic... and I'm glad I'm not the only one giggling maniacally at the Brain coral.
