Topic: Help with Sailfin Posted: February 27 2013 at 9:19pm |
I recently saw this on my Sailfin tang that I have had for 8 months. I did research and couldn't find anything on it besides it possibly being a trematode. This has happened quickly and the skin is also raised.

Water parameters: Nitrate: 5ppm Ph: 8.1 KH: 7.8??? Low but dont think it that can cause this! Salinity 1.026 My other fish are doing great! My dumb domino damsel seems to be a bit cloudy... Checked to see if my tigertail was still alive and it is... But i know they can release stuff if stressed?? Might pull him out tomorrow.. If he hasnt moved. The tang also has a smaller one on the other side. Hmmm.

could be a bacterial infection. If so, you'll have to qt it and give it meds. If you don't, you may lose it and infect the other fish.

I would put the fish in a hospital tank and treat with Cupramine for possible parasites for two weeks and also with an antibiotic for good measure in case it is a bacteria. I really can not say for sure what it is, better to remove from the display to protect the other livestock.

Yeah I am going to give it until tomorrow and see how it is tomorrow. I dont think it is an open sore. Seems to be losing it's color and fading away. Thankfully. I have seen fish with similar markings and it was because of old and over used carbon... So i took my carbon out and then replaced it with new carbon. Wish me luck over night.

I had a tang that got stuck by my long spine urchin, literally had spines hanging off it, got the spines out and yes overnight cleared up to normal. So odd how fast stuff changes with these critters.

I actually had a sail fin develop something very similar to your pics. Looked almost like a barnacle forming . He acted completely normal. Swam fine and was eating. I waited a week and it disappeared. Must be a sailfin thing haha
