 Topic: Large Rimless builders

Looking to build a 150g rimless and seems to be a tough order for the dimensions im after. 48"L x 30"W x 24"Tall. Sapphire on 3 sides also needs dual overflows want to run the herbie method. Must be a licensed tank builder and come with a warranty . Anyone have a place for this ?

When I'm ready to move up to a larger tank I plan to take a drive to Las Vegas and check out that outfit that has the "Tanked" show on TV! Its not local, but I think I want something creative looking! And Vegas can be fun to visit now and then.

get a hold of aquarium creations (on the board). he just built me a rimless 48x2x2 with sapphire on 3 sides and a single overflow drilled for a herbie style. it looks perfect

I got a 2X2 frag tank from him. He can do sapphire glass and my tank looks great. He drilled if for a Herbie too. The craftsmanship is excellent.

May I ask something about rimless> I read a few articles on the internet that have scared me about rimless ... seems some people think the seal can crack easier on rimless tanks? Especially larger rimless tanks. Is that true? I love the look of rimless, but don't want to sacrifice safety (ie water damage in my house) if there is a lot of risk involved there.

they are different. since they don't have that support across the top it is important to have a very solid and level stand. also can't do frame style stands, have to have an entire floor to support the weight of the tank. you can also do a euro-brace to add strength maintain a trimless look. i am pretty sure that elite_aquatics has a tank that measures something like you want and is rimless

Rimless tanks are just as safe as a standard tank. If you notice on rimless tanks the glass is thicker for two reasons, (1) so the glass will not bow and (2) to give more silicone bonding area = stronger joint. Also most custom tank builders use an industrial adhesive silicone which is much stronger then your typical silicone and has a much higher psi rating. I have a 48x30x22 rimless built out of 3/4" starphire glass with a 2" eurobrace around the bottom so the silicone joint is 1-1/2" at the bottom, I would trust this tank more then your typical tank I don't think its going anywhere.

A solid stand is always good. A frame stand works just fine for glass tanks, including rimless. Acrylic is the type that you need a solid top. Euro-bracing defeats the rimless look but can cut down on the splashes. Tyler's tank is really overbuilt. Corey

Corey, I was meaning a eurobrace around the bottom not the top. Yes my tank is a little over built, but that's the way I like it. the size of my tank specs 5/8" glass to be safe for rimless. The place that built my tank didn't have 5/8" so I just had them up it to 3/4"
