i have a red fuzzy algae that is getting to prolific in my zoo tank. the question is will a bi-color blenny eat it?

It's called something like asparagustus toxiformus... I haven't found anything that eats it willingly. My rabbitfish will eat it if that's the only algae he's offered.

I've had that red cotton candy too... I don't think it's Asparagopsis taxiformis though. Here are a few pictures of A. taxiformis:

A. taxiformis is a macro algae with distinct stalk and leaves, while the stuff pictured above is more like cotton candy without any real underlying structure.
Either way, it's a difficult algae to get rid of. I don't think anything will eat it, you just need to reduce nutrients to the point that it dies off. But if you do find something that eats it let us know.

You know I would have thought that the algae that Jon referred us to was A.taxiformis, but the Sea Scope people at Marineland thought differently. They devoted a cover story to it here: http://www.marineland.com/seascope/ss2003_issue3.pdf
Brian, in my tank it's growing on the Red Grape Algae that you gave me, just exactly like your pic. When Astrea snails find it they eat it, but getting them to stay on it till it's gone is practically impossible. My brother, Rodney, had a Yellow Tang that gobbled it up. And like Renee, my Rabbitfish eats it, but these larger fish love the Red Grape even more, so using them is out of the question. As for a Bicolor Blenny, all the ones I've ever had like soft filmy algaes but not macros like this red cottony A. taxiformis. My best guess is that you might find a Lawnmower Blenny that will eat it.
You might also try a few more hermits and definitely more snails in the tank. If they get hungry they will eat practically any algae.

Well Mark, it's only a name  , but that Seascope article is the only reference to this fluffy red algae being A. taxiformis. Do a Google of Asparagopsis taxiformis and go to the *.edu sites. Where's Adam when we need him?
Like I said, nothing in my tank would eat it. Luckily it's stayed in the sump and it's almost all gone now. I've pulled it out, cranked up the skimmer and switched from xenia to macros in my refugia.

yeah my blue tank in my other tank likes it and every other kind. as fas a nutrients go this tank only has zoos and softies and i don't feed the tank but once a week and very little at that. i have a skimmer and refug. i'll have to try the more snails and crabs. i was also thinking abouta lawnmower but most of the ones i'v seen were pretty big.
