I was just wondering if anyone has experience with these as how long they would live and how big do they get? Mine has been in my tank for about a year now and he is larger than a quarter.

I have one that is the size of a silver dollar, and that is big (carapace size).  I somewhat wish he would die.  I may grab him and pull him out next time my arm is in the tank.

I've got one that size too.  His span from claw to claw is easily 4 inches.  I've never noticed him doing anything really destructive although he's not much of a valonia eater.

Jon- really?
I bought mine to help control valonia.  Not eat it all, just control it.  I love bubble algae but it was getting a little too close to the green star polyps (and you know that they take precidence in my tank).  So I added one of these guys.  In two weeks he completely devoured them all.  I was a little ticked (and impressed) with him.  Now I worry "what has he been eating all this time since?".

If he'll eradicate bubble algae I'm sure you could auction him off for a decent amount at the next meeting.

Can I start the bidding with $10 bucks?

Maybe, you could just rent him out!

Fifteen!  I have a wide area for him to roam, and a new kind of bubble algae!  He might get the munchies late in the evening!  I could throw in some green star polyps!  Got a couple of kinds of them, too.

Adam - if you figure out how to consistently get $15 for emeralds, let me know. I think we should become partners!
