Topic: What's your dream tank?? Posted: January 06 2011 at 2:48pm |
So I'm starting to get back n' the swing of things with the hobby. Boy did I miss a lot!!! If anyone who's reading this doesn't know me. . well that's cool - my name is Amy but totally answers to "sukie" ( pronouced sook-ie not suck-y unless I've wronged you. . then you can call me whatever you want. ) So post what would be your dream tank. . . if money were no object what would you do?![Nuke Nuke](smileys/smiley34.gif) Remember limitations too. . like factor in the space of your house and the room it would go in. Factor in your family if you got one. Don't just be a greedy sob and just put in a tank that you love. Let the whole family enjoy. ![Nuke Nuke](smileys/smiley34.gif) So with that said. . a couple year ago when I drove down to LA for MAX - I saw my dream tank and it's been stuck in my head ever since! It was in the Icecap booth. Manufacturer - Elos Tank size - 120gal The stand would have to have the Lamborghini orange or red full frame doors like so: ![](http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd29/nervoustime/elos5-17-09001.jpg) Lights. . hmm definitely a mix of T5s and MHs. . So an Aqua Medic MH + T5 fixture.
I think that the flow is more important than lights.. . so slap on a couple vortec pumps For the guts. . . Deltec AP902 External Skimmer . . . . . Cal reactor. . . hmmm. . . . that's a tough one because I haven't done the research. . . . but I'm think I'd do a Knop reactor. Which one. . . probably the HD one. . . What else. . . tank - $2589.99 lights - $699.97 vortec - $699.97 skimmer - 2098.99 calcium - 549.99 total - $6638.91 (not including water, sand, and livestock) I think I need a 2nd job.

My dream tank will be not on a stand, but build on all of my walls. Imagine your staircase on each side seeing fishes going downhill or uphill. In the living room being surrounded by reef.

Ah yes. . I think I would have to make a huge addition to my house if I did that. But didn't even think about that option!

The funny part of this question is that, for me, having just one tank would mean leaving things out that I really want. My girls all want Seahorses, but they dont' do so well with Triggers and Lionfish. Then the pretty wrasses I like, with Butterflys and Angels, well, they aren't so good with corals and critters.
I have a tiled floor on one side of my TV room for a big tank. The tile is 48", so I think a nice glass tank about 96" x 30" x 24" is the right size. 300g. 24" tall so it's not too tall to clean. I want to plumb an external 'fuge to grow Mangroves as a house plant in the room.
Stand & Hood by Dion.
I won't go into the specific hardware, but it would include a return pump, closed loop and powerheads for circulation. Powerheads would be on a wavemaker to create whole-tank circulation (forget the name for it, where you get all the water moving together) Either 90 minute or 180 minute cycles.
I would like a Sump/fuge below the tank, but there is a closet directly through the wall for my daughter's room. I would put most of my pumps etc there for noise control and ease of maintenance. My goal would be to almost double my system's water with the sump/fuge setup. TCFAB would build it.
Lighting would incorporate LED, though likely a Hybrid system. LED would greatly reduce overall power cost and heat issues.
I would put my house on a Natural Gas or Propane generator for backup power, as well as running my powerheads through large UPS. I would also add a fireplace/stove so the house could be kept warm in an extended wintertime power outage.
A comprehensive controller system is a must with web interface. All systems including ATO, heaters and dosers would be on redundant systems to reduce the chance of faiures becoming catostrophic. Already have an ATO line run and RO/DI system in place.
That's a good start... ![Wink Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif)

Dion should totally be complimented!!!! My current tank stand is by Mr. Richins and it's pretty sweet!!! I didn't even think of a backup power. . . I need to add a generator to my dream list!!! It would help if I just got a generator in general for the Zombie apocalypse

mine would be like a wrap around couch but the whole room.
Filled with tangs, emporers and trigger. All automatic, all i want to do is watch
the fish swim.
Then in the basement have another tank acting like a refugium and a sump,
all the mechanical filtration hidden. The bottom tank would be filled with macro
algea and small fish would be in the basement along with the CUC

Well the image uploader keeps saying my image isn't a jpeg even though it is..... so here's a link to my dream tank.

Best picture is 3rd post from the bottom.
Cube tank, middle of the room but not dominating the room. Very clean and modern.
