I did something bad. I sat down and totaled up how much I have spent on my tank since I started 14 months ago. $2700. Wow. And I dont even have half of what I want. I think i need a 2nd job.

Never look back. It's too depressing. I think I am way over that. Dead

ha thats funny I ask Aquatic Dreams what I spent on my tank for the last 12 months and this is the stuff I got from Aquatic Dreams. They have all this info. save on the computer. Its was $7000 plus. Sometimes I wish I didn't give into this hobby. All The money I would have saved.

I really want to spend more, but I'm pretty happy with the amount of money I've spent for what I have. Time wise I've put in much more.

If you enjoy it, it's money well spent. If money can bring us no pleasure, why have it? I try to think more about how much I have saved through research, diy, and this club.

I'm with fishoutawater.  Sure, you could have saved money by not getting into the hobby.  But then what would you have spent that money on?  Something less cool than this, surely!

I've been in this hobby for many years, and I've spent well into the $10k range, but not all of that was my money. My firm pays for it now.

I'd say that it's $50 per gallon to get something going good, just to start. Then figure $2500 per year on a large tank as a starting point for yearly maintenance supplies, fish, coral, etc. Double that number if you like the rare stuff, at least.

No way would I have Old Hobbyist Syndrome if my firm paid for my reef. I'd be happy as a clam.Big smile

I figure once I get a new T5/LED light, a G3 skimmmer, better pumps and powerheads, a calcium reactor, UV sterilizer, GFO/carbon canister, PH monitor, Controller, RO/DI maker, ATO and about 50 cool colorful SPS frags, I can stop spending. I should be able to get all that for about $100 right? Wacko

Rule #1 never add it up. Add up all the money you spent going out to eat. It adds up fast. Look at the dollar figure again and then go look at your tank or tanks. Money well spent with a side of friends.
